Jamo C910 subwoofer review

Whether it is a two-channel or multi-channel system, if the optimal low frequency is missing, perfect sound will not be achieved. If you use only two- or multi-channel speakers, the speakers should have enough volume to make the bass sounds intense enough. In other words, the speakers need to be big enough, which inevitably takes up a lot of space. Another method is to add active subwoofers to the sound system. Properly tuned and set up, even small bookshelf speakers can show the full range of sound using subwoofers! The Jamo C910 SUB subwoofer with a 300 W amplifier perfectly combines premium low frequency performance with a modern, luxurious design, resulting in these elegant speakers with exceptional acoustics.

Design of the Jamo C 910

The Jamo C 910 weighs 14 kilograms, which is not light foam. But nonetheless, there is no difficulty in moving it. The speaker cabinet has a clean and angular shape and is not equipped with extra decorations. In our test, we tested a black speaker. The surface of the cabinet is black synthetic veneer, pleasant, smooth to the touch.

C-910-subFrom a design standpoint, the box on the C910 is completely fair, but not particularly attractive. However, if you put on the included speaker grille, the visual quality will improve immediately! This time, Jamo changed the grid material to a thick, gray-black woven fabric, which gave an elegant style to the look of the device. The top and bottom of the grille are curved, making the speaker look a little slimmer.

It is equipped with a 254 mm diameter IMG membrane

In terms of specifications, the C910’s front baffle is equipped with a 254 mm diameter IMG (injection molded graphite, polyfiber) diaphragm subwoofer. The membrane is made of graphite, which has the advantages of light weight and high rigidity. The IMG diaphragm helps ensure accurate and solid bass. The Class D amplifier module responsible for driving can deliver 150 watts of output power, and the maximum peak power can reach 300 watts in an instant. The total frequency response is 32Hz ~ 125Hz.

Front bass reflex design

The speaker uses the front bass reflex design. The front reflex port connector is located on the lower right corner of the front panel. The narrow aperture can significantly reduce airflow, resonances, and enhance the wider extension of low-frequency sounds. Thanks to the front reflex port, the C910 can also be placed close to the wall, making it easier to select the location of the speaker.

RCA input with wireless transmission

There are also C910 RCA input connectors on the back of the subwoofer. The main advantage of these is that users can connect to the Pre Out or Sub Out output of the audio device. Next to the RCA input there is a switch with which you can adjust the phase (0/180). The two side buttons allow you to adjust the intersection point and volume.

What’s even more remarkable is that on the right side of the back panel is a series of WA-2 ports. If you purchase an additional WA-2 wireless device, you can enjoy the convenience of wireless transmission. The WA-2 uses 2.4 GHz wireless transmission technology, which guarantees low latency when transmitting high-definition music.

Sound performance

We tested the Jamo subwoofer in a medium-sized home theater room. The room was not acoustically perfect yet. Although some leather-membrane sound-absorbing panels have been placed on the wall, bass traps will still be needed in the corners for proper sound, and two-pattern absorption panels with diffusers will be placed on the walls. Previously, the owner tried to improve the acoustics of the room with styrofoam wall panels instead of wooden, premium quality acoustic elements, but unfortunately did not see any improvement. Of course, this was not surprising to us, because sponge, foam, styrofoam materials are not able to absorb deeper sounds, but in return, they completely destroy the high ranges, thus only further degrading the acoustics. We tested the subwoofer with a pair of Jamo S 807 floorstanding speakers.

The C910 featured a wide, extensive, vibrant sound, and the music also sounded richer. Playing Michael Jackson’s song Smooth Criminal, with the addition of a subwoofer, an instant change in sound quality was immediately felt. By adding a subwoofer, it filled the 20-square-foot listening space with low-frequency energy. We heard powerful, rhythmic, dynamic, directed depths.

In terms of music, the Jamo subwoofer performed well. But what about the movies? The low-frequency sound effect radiated by the C910 was very strong, highlighting the emotional tension of the fights and explosions that took place in the films. The C910 handled dynamic changes well and full bass, providing detailed sound.

Overall, the performance of the subwoofer bass is absolutely powerful, characterized by good dynamics and clear sounds. The exterior design is modern and elegant. There are three colors to choose from, so it fits easily into most interiors. The front reflex port allows you to place the speaker close to the wall, so it fits comfortably even in smaller rooms without taking up much space. Thanks to its remarkable performance, it significantly improves the sound of even the smaller bookshelf speakers. The price is also very affordable.
